Mercedes

In March Astral were called on to provide projection and additional exterior lighting for the outside of the new Mercedes sales site and showroom in Brentford. The exterior was lit with an array of LED wall washers and multi beam high power aerial effects. The iconic Mercedes logo and Mercedes tag lines were projected onto the front tower using Barco G5s.  The interior used 8 Sanyo XP500L projectors for multiple playback of the latest Mercedes advertising material and some of Mercedes iconic advertising archive.

Joy Of Sound

Astral were back at Joy of Sound’s Sensorium in May and this time along with the usual generic lighting we took 4 x XP100Ls fitted with high end catalyst orbital heads to produce the eye candy, the whole lot was driven by catalyst systems with some content routed via Module 8.

World Super Yacht Awards

The 5th Annual World Super Yacht Awards took place on Saturday 22nd May 2010 at London’s iconic and historic Guildhall. To handle the project of lighting at the glittering awards ceremony, gala dinner and dance, was renowned lighting designer James Waudby of Astral Design with Talbot Productions. Equipped with a Pearl Expert for better control of media servers, James commented that he also wanted the Expert’s split roller which allowed them to use separate elements of the playback more effectively.

Unsurprisingly, the theme to this year’s award ceremony had to maintain a somewhat ‘aquatic’ impression. With a long relationship with the client, Astral Design were left pretty much to themselves to get the job done, the only stipulation was for James to operate the desk personally. This year Astral have introduced digital lighting to the event. The initial set up for the great hall included 6 X 575 moving heads, 6 X 250 moving heads, 48 wall washers, source fours for the specials and 8 x Sanyo xp100 projectors fitted with orbital heads and arena view heads driven by high end catalyst servers. In the Library, the truss was adorned with, 6 x martin 918, generic rig, led battens and up lighters, which were run from a pearl classic.

Shangri-La at Glastonbury

After the success of last year’s Shangri-La at Glastonbury international festival of the arts, Astral have been invited back again to light this unique environment. This year we will be directing, designing and supplying all the lighting in the area. In addition Astral are providing lighting direction, design and   sponsorship for The Hub area which will feature moving head projectors, intelligent lighting and lasers. There will also be a video mapping installation by Bruce Ferguson funded by the arts council of Great Britain.  This installation will be unique in its environment and we are very pleased to be involved in commissioning it with Shangri-La.

Marlow Temporary theatre for Evolution Productions

In the winter of 2009 Evolution Productions built a temporary theatre for the Marlow in Canterbury whilst its Theatre is being refit. We were delighted to be asked to build the stage for this 1500 seat temporary auditorium. The construction required over 100 staging units and all the requisite legs and levelling equipment. Once the stage was built we moved into the foyer providing cosmetic lighting and power distribution for this informal bar and concessions area. The installation included numerous LED wash lights and Source 4 break ups, specials for the pirate ship themed bar and practical lighting for the sales areas and tills.
